I love Marilyn Monroe...

I love Marilyn Monroe and almost everything that has to do with the period between the 30’s and the 60’s. I live in a thirties house, drive a fifties car and have a sixties husband.

But my love for yesteryears doesn’t stop here, since I love to sing jazz standards that are written from the 30’s until the 50’s.

I attended a Jazz school in Amsterdam to perfect my singing and attended several workshops and courses. I also love acting. So my Marilyn Monroe tribute act allows me to mix all these lovely ingredients together and make it real tasty: Memory Monroe!!

How did you ever get the idea of becoming a Marilyn Monroe Look-alike???

A few years ago a lady told me that she thought I look like Marilyn Monroe.

As I always adored Marilyn Monroe, and identified myself with her, I immediately started fantasising about performing as Marilyn.

A few months later I sang Happy Birthday to a dear friend dressed up to look like Marilyn Monroe. The feedback was overwhelming and I was encouraged to perfect my appearance and my act to become a tribute to Marilyn Monroe artist.

I don’t like to look at myself as a Marilyn Monroe Look-alike or Marilyn Monroe Sound-alike. There was only one so adorable and one of a kind as Marilyn Monroe herself. I really want to pay tribute and mark and highlight her most explicit mannerisms. Unlike some Marilyn Monroe Impersonators, I don’t like to portray Marilyn as a dumb blonde. I like the roles she played in her most successful movies, and try to re-enact them.

All the movies that she played a part in are lovely to watch. I get my inspiration by watching her movies: "The Seven Year Itch" and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". They also provide the most material to work with, to give people the Marilyn Monroe that they know and see in their imagination. Her singing voice was absolutely lovely and really hard to get right. Most people don’t realise that she has sung more than one or two songs but for me it is important to pay her a proper tribute, by singing most of her songs.

By being a Marilyn Monroe tribute artist, people do refer to me as a Marilyn Monroe Look-alike or Marilyn Monroe impersonator. I really don’t blame them as long as I can portray Marilyn Monroe the way I think pays tribute to her, I am more than fine with that.

It is such a lovely “job”… I get to meet really interesting people in all layers of society: from Multi Millionaires like Dolce and Gabbana and J.Lo to a salesman at the store where I promote a new product.

Cinderella Story

A lot of great things have happened to me! As I said…meeting Dolce and Gabbana…singing and dancing for and with them on Domenico Dolce’s 50th birthday it felt like a Cinderella story. And singing in a newly opened theatre for some thousand people along side a great Big Band... who would have thought!!

And being picked out of 50 contestants to do a casting for a very big Italian film production in Rome with the producer of La Vita E Bella… in the end my only opponent was a British Marilyn look-alike who has been performing as Marilyn for over 10 years and is known to be one of the best of the World!! The British Marilyn Monroe look-alike was picked after all but I think it’s a big compliment, who knows what I will achieve in the years to come.

Recently I was to be seen on Dutch TV in a programm called My Name Is...My name is Marilyn Monroe

I have a few things on my Marilyn Monroe bucket list one of them is to go and visit Hollywood and literally stand in Marilyn Monroe’s footsteps in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood and another one is perfecting and completing this Marilyn Monroe website.

So it will be real nice seeing you again and again!!

Love Memory Monroe XOXO
